[B2] WebSphere Development Studio for i5/OS WebSphere Development Studio for i5/OS is IBM’s complete suite of tools for creating and maintaining applications for the System i. Included in the toolset are the traditional language compilers as well as development components to work with those traditional technologies such as RPG and COBOL. But WDS also includes tools to assist in the integration and creation of applications using Java, Web, XML, etc. What are the pieces are included in WDS and how should they be used? This question and more will be reviewed and answered during this session. [D2] Optimize DB2 for i5/OS Access from Java and WebSphere This presentation provides implementation tips and coding examples that illustrate how to optimize the access to your DB2 for i5/OS database from a client system by using various JDBC drivers. Currently, IBM offers several JDBC drivers that support DB2 for i5/OS: - Type 4 drivers--IBM Toolbox for Java & JTOpen, and DB2 Universal JDBC Driver - Type 2 driver--DB2 JDBC Type 2 Driver We discuss several important aspects of efficient JDBC programming for DB2 for i5/OS: - Connection Pooling - Extended Dynamic SQL and Statement Caching - Reusable Open Data Paths (ODPs) - Block Insert - Massive Delete We cover various WebSphere locking scenarios and show methods to reduce resource contention. The tools and utilities that can be used to troubleshoot the JDBC connections to DB2 will also be covered in this session.
